What if I turned in an application but I didn't get a call?

We have a lot of interest in our volunteer program and unfortunately cannot accommodate every applicant. Certain periods of the year have more applicants than others and only a certain amount of volunteers can be selected. We here at San Dimas Community Hospital appreciate your interest in the program and request that you reapply for the next quarter.

What if I need these hours for school? Can I get documentation to state my completed hours for school?

If you need hours for school then you can have documentation for the hours you have completed. If your hours are less than the San Dimas Community Hospital 40 hour commitment then we ask that you agree to finish the program requirements.

How old do I have to be to volunteer?

Applicants must be age 16 or older. Applicants between the ages of 16 to 17 must have parents or legal guardian's permission and consent for a few forms. Parents/Guardians must be present at the time of orientation to sign consents. Applicants age 18 and older are required to submit to a background check

How long and how often are the volunteer shifts?

Typically we allow our volunteers to do one shift a week of a minimum 4 hours. Additional shifts can be requested due to availability of shifts and volunteer availability.

Are there any hands on clinical patient care I can volunteer?

There are no Clinical volunteer opportunities available. Hands on patient care must be done by a trained healthcare professional and volunteers are not allowed to conduct any patient care. There are many opportunities for behind the scenes and patient experience that provide patient interaction.

Can I request a department to work in?
Departments are assigned based on volunteer availability and shift availability. You can request a department but your shift assignment will be where you are needed most.

What departments are available?

If you would prefer a more behind the scenes or direct patient care there is a number of different departments available. Currently there are volunteer opportunities in

  • Admitting
  • Dietary services
  • Emergency Room
  • Human Resources
  • Med Surg Telemetry
  • Medical Records
  • Perinatal
  • Administrative areas
