Family Birth Center

Having a baby is one of the most exciting events in your life. But it can often be a little overwhelming. At San Dimas Community Hospital, our team of skilled physicians and nurses is ready to assist patients during every stage of their pregnancy - and after their delivery, too.

Get Ready for A Healthy Beginning

Our care for you begins the moment you think you're pregnant. Call us and we'll refer you to a physician for your needs. It's important you continue with regular prenatal care appointments with your physician. If needed, we'll help you apply for Medi-Cal.

Everything New Parents Need to Know

As an expecant mother, one of your first reactions probably will be to learn as much as you can about this tiny person growing inside you - and how to care for him or her. We offer a wide range of classes taught by nurses, physicians and other professionals who can help prepare you for pregnancy, birth and parenting.

When the Big Day Arrives

Eventually, all the waiting - especially that long last month - is over. It's assuring to know that our Family Birth Center provides a wide range of maternity services designed to make each patient's birth experience as smooth and comfortable as possible. These include:

  • Labor, Delivery, Recovery (LDR) rooms, which provide a comfortable birth experience. After delivery, baby can rest comfortably in the new mom's room with nurses available to assist in their care. Mom can enjoy the comfort of having own shower and VCR in the room.
  • Anesthesia specialists available 24 hours
  • Flexible visiting hours for family members and friends
  • Baby photos will be taken for infant security and safety purposes - as well as for a take-home momento.

Mammography Services

One of the most important healthcare concerns of every woman is breast cancer. Since all women are at risk for developing breast cancer, the American Cancer Society recommends that women over age 40 get a mammogram every year.

The risk for breast cancer increases as a woman gets older and:

  • if she has had breast cancer previously
  • if her mother or sister has had breast cancer
  • if she has never had children or had her first child after age 30
  • if she began menstruating early
  • if she began menopause late
  • if she is overweight

Physical Therapy

We have a therapist who is a board certified specialist in treating neurological problems (including strokes, balance and vestibular problems) as well as therapists that specialize in orthopedic problems (knee, hip, back, shoulder, etc.), industrial medicine injuries, and wound care. Physical therapy programs are designed to improve balance, coordination, motion, strength and mobility.

Occupational Therapy

For people with hand, shoulder or elbow problems, occupational therapy helps to return function, range of motion and decrease pain as well as re-educate patients on the activities of daily living such as standing, walking, bathing, dressing, meal preparation, reading and shopping.

Speech Therapy

For patients who have difficulty swallowing or communicating, such as after a stroke, our speech/language pathologist may help improve speech, writing skills, cognition (thinking skills) and swallowing.
